Brunei Darussalam, as a Party to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), will continue to fulfil its responsibilities in conserving biodiversity. This includes through the National Biodiversity Policy and Strategic Action Plan 2024–2030, which serves as the national framework for translating global biodiversity commitments into more effective actions in the country. The Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism stated the matter in a message in conjunction with the International Day for Biological Diversity. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin stressed that conservation initiatives will not only ensure the sustainability of the nation's natural resources but also support the well-being of the people, environmental resilience, and economic growth in line with the aspirations of Wawasan Brunei 2035.
Yang Berhormat said that as the lead agency for biodiversity conservation efforts, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Forestry Department continues to implement various measures under existing legislation and policies. Complementing these conservation initiatives, the Forestry Department, in collaboration with enforcement agencies, continues to actively conduct regular and coordinated forest patrols to monitor and address any illegal activities.
Youth participation is also essential in shaping a more sustainable future. Hence, educational institutions, youth organisations, and community groups have an important part to play in fostering environmental stewardship, civic responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for the value of biodiversity. This year's celebration theme, 'Acting Locally for Global Impact,' underscored the importance of collective local action in addressing global environmental challenges.
